Visit Great Yarmouth seeks alternative Big Wednesday seafront entertainment as fire risk stops fireworks

Visit Great Yarmouth is scrambling to deliver alternative evening seafront entertainment for this week’s Big Wednesdays and has cancelled tomorrow’s Hemsby Big Tuesday while the national fire alert remains in place.

CEO Asa Morrison has stood down the Tuesday firework crew according to government advice not to use fireworks because of the wildfire alert.

“We are currently working hard to find alternatives to entertain people on Great Yarmouth seafront on Wednesday. We know people plan their holidays and weeks around our evening displays and we don’t want to disappoint.

“We hope to announce new plans tomorrow.

“Unfortunately, we couldn’t do the same for Hemsby because we don’t have sufficient time to have the correct permissions in place for alternatives there but will be looking ahead to provide different entertainment at Hemsby next week if the alert is still in place.

“Seafront businesses benefit hugely from our Big Wednesdays and also in Hemsby Big Tuesdays with mor than £3 million generated for the local economy by firework nights – £22 for every £1 we spend on the fireworks – so we hope to deliver something spectacular to bring in the crowds and please everyone.”
