200-light drone seafront show announced for tomorrow’s Big Wednesday at Great Yarmouth

A dazzling aerial artistry show by 200 light drones will fill the skies with colour and exciting formations over Great Yarmouth seafront tomorrow night (19th Aug) to replace the weekly fireworks halted by the national wildfire alert.

The show will take place at 10pm as a last-minute replacement for the weekly fireworks.

Visit Great Yarmouth has secured been working with an international drone company to step in at the last minute to make sure this week’s spectacular Big Wednesday event goes ahead to avoid disappointing the weekly crowds that flock to the Golden Mile.

Tomorrow’s show promises an immersive experience by internationally acclaimed Lumina, which performs drone light shows across the UK and Europe.
Lumina will use 200 drones equipped with LED lights, synchronising them to create patterns and designs in the night sky. “No two shows alike. Just your vision, written in light,” it promises.
The AeroSPARX plane that flies at dusk will be switching its pyrotechnic display to a coloured smoke routine.

Visit Great Yarmouth CEO Asa Morrison said: “The show will go on! We were determined to deliver and not disappoint so we are working with Lumina to light up the skies over the Golden Mile instead of fireworks this week. We have also been working with AeroSPARX who have reworked the display with coloured spoke effects
“We are all thrilled to be able to put on unique entertainment for the thousands of people looking forward to spending their Wednesday evening on the seafront enjoying the vibrant fun family atmosphere and all that our businesses have to offer.

“The business community puts such an effort into supporting Big Wednesdays – organising their own events – so to be able to come up with something different for this week’s fifth Big Wednesday to go ahead for everyone despite the national fire alert is especially pleasing.”
Visit Great Yarmouth chair Nathan Race said: “The business community puts such an effort into supporting Big Wednesdays – putting on their own events – so to be able to come up with something different for this week’s fifth Big Wednesday to go ahead for everyone despite the national fire alert is especially pleasing.
“Big Wednesdays are a much-loved part of the summer in Great Yarmouth and we know how much they mean to our visitors, residents and businesses. We are delighted to have found such an exciting alternative at very short notice.

“This is a fantastic example of everyone pulling together to make sure Great Yarmouth continues to deliver a brilliant visitor experience. A 200-drone light show will be something completely different and, I hope, give our crowds another spectacular memory to take home with them.”

Visit Great Yarmouth will make announcements about BIG Tuesdays in Hemsby on August 25 and Great Yarmouth on the August 26 later this week, when more information is available.
