Count Down to Weekly Seaside Fireworks

The summer holidays start with a bang this week as free weekly fireworks displays return to the coast.

Big Tuesdays and Big Wednesdays begin at Hemsby tomorrow (July 23) and Great Yarmouth on Wednesday (July 24) running every week for six consecutive weeks.

New street acts will build the atmosphere and entertain the crowds in both locations before weekly technicolour fills the night sky with dramatic displays at 10pm.

UK family favourite Titan the Robot will roll back into town again on week three, on August 6 and 7, after wowing the crowds at Great Yarmouth Wheels Festival last month.

Now world-famous, the Britain’s Got Talent semi-finalist will be at Hemsby on August 6 and at Great Yarmouth’s south and central seafront on August 7, delivering his ultimate family entertainment show of comedic antics.

This week and next week – week one and week two – Pif Paf’s The Flycycle & Submercycle will be sharing fantasy journeys aboard their famous travelling machines ‘flying’ with Captain Bigshot crossing continents in turbulent adventures and Captain Calypso, deep beneath the sea.

Pif Paf will begin its entertainment at each venue just after 6pm, with other act starting times announced on a weekly basis.

Following requests from the public, Week four – August 14 – will trial low noise fireworks in Great Yarmouth only.

Lyndon Bevan, Chair of Visit Great Yarmouth, which funds and organises the spectacles, said anticipation was mounting for the start of the displays, which draw the crowds to Hemsby Beach and fill Great Yarmouth seafront.

“People always look forward to our fireworks starting and travel from far and wide to make sure they catch them, planning their visit around the dates.

“Our firework evenings are huge milestones in our calendar with day trippers, locals, and holidaymakers making an evening of it in both locations.”

The events are free, funded by Greater Yarmouth Tourism and Business Improvement Area (GYTABIA) trading as Visit Great Yarmouth.

Asa Morrison, Chief Executive of Visit Great Yarmouth said the Great Yarmouth firework display would be set off from three different locations throughout the six weeks to encourage visitors to move around the seafront and benefit as many businesses as possible along Marine Parade.

“This also allows us flexibility with the weather, but primarily it is to give people a chance to experience as much of the seafront as possible and perhaps new businesses and attractions that they haven’t visited before.

“We want to ensure that all our visitors have the best possible views and enjoy a memorable experience.”

Visit Great Yarmouth is encouraging businesses to stay open late on the display dates to welcome customers and help build the evening atmosphere on the seafront.

Hemsby’s fireworks will take place at the beach every Tuesday until August 27 at the beach near the end of Beach Road. The street acts appearing in Great Yarmouth will also appear at Hemsby.

The Great Yarmouth fireworks will be every Wednesday until August 28.

Times and locations may be impacted by the weather. Information will be updated on Visit Great Yarmouth’s Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/VisitGreatYarmouth?crmLink=4
