Study visit to Weston Supermare 11th to the 13th October 2016
Since 2001 the Greater Yarmouth Tourist Authority have organised an annual study visit to coastal destinations in the UK and in Europe. Meeting up with peers in destinations including Blackpool, Bournemouth, Scarborough, Ostend, Le Touquet, Scheveningen and Biarritz attendees have shared best practices, successes and failures. All who go on the study visits pay for their trips and take holidays from work in order to attend.
A visit to Weston-Super-Mare in 2016 will be taking place on 11th/12th/13th October. Further details and booking forms are below for you to download. I look forward to receiving applications from businesses from all over the borough.

Park & Save
The GYTABIA have devised a scheme to help drive customers to your business and offset the borough council’s car park charges for visitors and locals alike (See All downloads at bottom of page)
Click here to link to the Park & Save page on the main Greater Yarmouth website listing all the current participating businesses in the scheme.
To explain it simply; in each borough council car park (excluding Great Yarmouth town centre and Marina Centre) the car park ticket dispensing machine will issue an extra voucher alongside the usual car park ticket this can then be used in participating businesses i.e. restaurants/attractions/shops/services to redeem against some form of discount or offer (the offer is entirely the individual businesses decision).

Revised Schedule of Works Marine Parade 29.3.16
We have been able to reschedule various elements of the work to minimise any impact on the holiday trade during the second week of the school holidays.
We will now only carry out pre-surfacing works during the week commencing 4 April, and these will be scheduled for completion during the evenings of that week (7pm to approx. 11pm) rather than during normal hours as originally planned. The pre-surfacing works will comprise of granite block re setting in the road in the vicinity of the Hollywood Cinema. During the following day this section will need to be coned off to allow the bedding mortar to cure but there will always be one lane width available for the public (rather than the normal two as it’s a one way system here).
Latest Marine Parade Roadworks News 23.3.16
The information below may be helpful about the proposed works on Marine Parade:
Week commencing Monday 21 March to Thursday 24 March
Some preliminary kerbing work at junction to Britannia Road
No need for traffic control during these works – only traffic cones will be used to direct vehicles around the kerb works.
On Thursday works will be suspended, and then resume on Monday, 4 April.
This means there will be no disruption to traffic during the Easter weekend or the first week of the school holidays.
Week commencing Monday 04 April to Friday 8 April
Works to repair the granite block features in the carriageway.
Works will be completed using only half of the carriageway width at a time.
Timeless Lure of Seafront Snails and Scenic Railway
They are the white knuckle seafront rides that unleash a rollercoaster of emotions and memories across the generations.
But their timeless fairground fun is also playing a key role in the future of a leading UK holiday resort.
Great Yarmouth’s speedy smiling Snails have clicked, twisted and trundled through their jolly corner of the Joyland children’s funfair since it was opened in 1949.
Their brightly-painted smiles and shiny shells have been getting their winter facelift ready for the season ahead.
The colourful creatures have given countless wide-eyed children their first taste of the heady cocktail of fear and excitement that goes with a seafront funfair ride – even though they only plunge a few feet among cheery gnomes and colourful creatures.
Resort Hands Out Tourism and Business Awards
A seaside caravan park boss, who has been a long-standing supporter of tourism in the Great Yarmouth area, has been given a lifetime achievement award.
Don Peers has a half century of experience at the family-run tourer and static Grasmere site at Caister, started by his great great grandfather in 1850.
He has been involved since a child and on neighbouring sites has added a 12-chalet site and converted a town house into award-winning apartments.
Mr Peers, 67, who is also a Methodist lay preacher in the Great Yarmouth circuit, said he was thrilled to receive the honour at the climax of an awards ceremony held by the Greater Yarmouth Tourism and Business Improvement Area.
Top Young Sailors Ahoy
A trans-Atlantic seafaring hero is helping to launch a national regatta’s maiden voyage to a Norfolk beach this summer.
A fleet of 400 school-age sailors will head to Gorleston in July to compete in a week-long series of tough seafaring tests run by the National Schools Sailing Association.
But the starting gun gets fired this month as a special ball onshore this month helps raise funds and awareness for the prestigious event.
Star speaker is Norfolk-based Matt Boreham, who has twice rowed 3000 miles across the Atlantic, including helping partially-sighted former Royal Navy Lieutenant Alan Lock through mountainous seas in 2008. He also had to abort three other attempts in the late 1990s.
Lights, Camera, Holiday Ideas
A top Norfolk seaside resort is adding a touch of Hollywood to its holidays through a pioneering series of mini movies being screened on-line.
The 70-second short films provide vivid video snapshots of the people, places, activities and events in the main town and surrounding areas.
Although Great Yarmouth remains one of the UK’s most popular and enduring destinations, particularly for people from the Midlands and London, there is a concerted campaign to attract even more trippers, from different areas and backgrounds – and to dispel any misconceptions about the resort.
Greater Yarmouth Tourism and Business Improvement Area Limited is behind the drive, and has put £45,000 towards making a dozen varied films along with further funds to promote them online.
