Major Cash Investment for Great Yarmouth’s Tourism Economy
NEWS RELEASE
Major cash injection for Great Yarmouth’s tourist offer
- Visit Great Yarmouth announces huge investment – boosting economy, jobs and the all-year round tourism offer.
- More than £450,000 will be plunged into the borough through supporting at least 16 events on the calendar, marketing, and individual projects.
Organisations providing events across the Great Yarmouth borough are to benefit from a major cash windfall.
Visit Great Yarmouth is to invest more than £450,000 into marketing activities, projects, physical enhancements and the events programme to build on the rich array of activities available for holidaymakers and day trippers.
The funding is part of the overall financial investment from The Greater Yarmouth Tourism and Business Improvement Area (GYTABIA), which trades as Visit Great Yarmouth.
The summer evening fireworks in both Great Yarmouth and Hemsby will be fully funded and include street entertainment throughout the season from Out There Arts, while the Wheels Festival on July 1 and 2 and the Festival of Bowls, which begins on August 27, will receive significant monetary support.
Great Yarmouth Arts Festival, The Out There Festival, Caister Carnival Fun Day, Gorleston Clifftop Gala Fireworks, Gorleston Bandstand Concerts, The ADP Riot Tour, Hopton Party in the Park, Comic Con Mini, Gorleston Christmas Switch On and the Coastal Path Celebrations have also attracted funding.
Funding for additional events throughout the year is also being considered.
Facilities, maintenance and individual projects will receive backing, including Filby in Bloom, Caister in Bloom and Gorleston in Bloom, while decorative lighting, CCTV maintenance and a lighting programme for Great Yarmouth will be supported.
Marketing investment, which includes a digital short break and holiday guide, a blogger ambassador programme and various competitions for visitors, including a return of The Golden Ticket, will continue to develop the destination’s all-year round offer.
Media coverage, both nationally and locally was worth more than £2.5m to the borough in 2022.
Lyndon Bevan, Chair of Visit Great Yarmouth said: “Our investment for 2023 will give funding support to many projects and events, which will bolster the rich selection of activities already available for all generations, but also make a huge amount of difference to the fantastic organisations we work with.”
Asa Morrison, Chief Executive of Visit Great Yarmouth, said: “We are extremely fortunate that we have such amazing businesses who work together to provide an unforgettable experience for our holidaymakers and day trippers, but we are also buoyed by how full our events calendar is year on year, organised in many cases by volunteers, who are passionate about our area.”
“The free Big Tuesday Night Fireworks at Hemsby and The Big Wednesday Evenings in Great Yarmouth during the summer holidays are guaranteed to once again be spectacular, supported by the phenomenal talents from Out There Arts. There really will be something for everyone.”
- The Big Wednesday Evenings on the Golden Mile will begin on Wednesday, July 26, and will run every Wednesday up until, and including Wednesday, August, 30. The free family shows will begin at 5pm with street acts delivered by Out There Arts, which will be repeated at 9pm before a firework display takes place at 10pm each week.
- The Big Tuesday Night Fireworks in Hemsby will follow the same format with street acts from Out There Arts performing at 5pm and 9pm, before the fireworks take place at 10pm. It will begin on Tuesday, July 25 and will run every Tuesday up until, and including Tuesday, August 29.
